Watch: Okonjo-Iweala visits home without signature scarf, community celebrates her with songs, dance

• Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was celebrated by women and age-grade groups in her Delta community with songs, dance, and special tributes during a home visit.

• The WTO Director-General joined her community in a joyful dance as residents honoured her global achievements and leadership.

• The visit comes shortly after Okonjo-Iweala attended the Delta State Economic Summit, where she called for a stronger maintenance culture in Nigeria

The emotional moment was captured as members of the community serenaded the WTO boss with traditional songs and dances in appreciation of her remarkable contributions and global achievements as the first African and first woman to lead the organisation.

The women performed a series of songs that filled the atmosphere with excitement. As the performance continued, community members joined in the chants, proudly singing, “na our mama be this o.”

Okonjo-Iweala, who was dressed in a simple outfit and appeared without her signature scarf, a style she is widely recognised for, smiled with visible joy as she embraced the moment. She also joined the women in their dance.

Following the performance, the community honoured the former Nigerian finance minister with special tributes, celebrating her dedication, achievements and the pride she has brought to them on the global stage.
