Oliseh in the early hours of Friday, February, 26 took to Twitter to announce his resignation as coach of the Super Eagles citing contract violations, unpaid wages and benefits to players and assistant coaches.

While he respects Oliseh’s decision to retire, Onazi said he was shocked by it.

“His resignation came to me as a surprise. I wasn't expecting it. I don't really know what happened and how it happened, but that's his decision, I am sure he has his reasons for doing that,” the Lazio midfielder told .

The midfielder also praised Super Eagles temporary coach, Samson Siasia, stating his willingness to work with him.

Ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double header against Egypt later in the month, Onazi says the Super Eagles will overcome their North African opposition.

“We will make it to AFCON 2017 by the grace of God. This time, it's going to be a different ball game. It's unfortunate that we are always in situation like this when we want to qualify for major competitions like the Nations Cup and World Cup,”  the 23-year-old said.

“I believe this time around we will be matured about it and we know how the emotions were when we couldn't make it to the last edition of the Nations Cup.

“We will be very direct and serious about it.' 'There are no unbeatable teams in the world. We can actually beat them. They are coming to our home first and victory in the match is very important for us.' ' We have to do all we can to beat them and go top of the group because that's the surest way we can qualify.”
