Aprilia has confirmed that Jorge Martin will attempt to race in the upcoming Malaysian MotoGP Grand Prix, despite injuring his wrist last weekend at Phillip Island.

The 2024 World Champion crashed out during the Australian Grand Prix Sprint while battling title rival Marc Marquez for the lead. The fall left the Spaniard with a fractured wrist and ruled him out of Sunday's race. However, he was spared further damage in the standings as severe weather forced the full cancellation of the Australian Grand Prix. Following the Sprint, Marquez opened up a 10-point lead over Martin at the top of the championship.

The Mallorca-born rider has already arrived at the Sepang circuit ahead of the race weekend. His participation is not yet guaranteed and will depend entirely on his physical condition. Martin must pass mandatory medical checks on Thursday, but emphasised that he is doing everything in his power to be in the best possible shape.

“I am undergoing the necessary medical treatments to recover from the injury and be in the best shape possible at Sepang. At this stage, it is impossible to make any predictions. We will assess the situation day by day,” the Spaniard stated ahead of the Grand Prix.

Sepang has traditionally brought bad luck for Martin since his switch to Aprilia. A heavy crash during 2025 pre-season testing triggered an injury-plagued campaign that limited him to just seven starts last season. Injury kept him out of last year's Malaysian GP, and he subsequently missed 2026 pre-season testing while recovering from surgery in December.

The Malaysian circuit also proved a tough test for the Noale-based manufacturer last season. Although Aprilia triumphed in three of the final four races of 2025, their best result at Sepang was merely a 10th-place finish by Ai Ogura, with Marco Bezzecchi crossing the line in 11th.
