Sporting has announced the signing of Gabe Kalscheur for their senior men's basketball team. The 27-year-old, 1.93m American guard arrives in Alvalade from Club Ourense Baloncesto, in the Spanish second division, to embark on a new chapter in his career.
In his first statements as a Lion, Kalscheur expressed his excitement about the move to Lisbon, calling the opportunity to represent Sporting a "once-in-a-lifetime" chance. The athlete highlighted the quality of the Portuguese League and participation in European competitions as decisive factors in his choice.
"It's a new group, with some more experienced players who were already here, and a new coach. The Portuguese League is very good, and we're also competing in European competitions, so I'm very excited," he told the club's media outlets.
With a career that includes American collegiate basketball, a stint in the NBA Summer League, and experiences in Germany and Spain, Kalscheur views his arrival in Portugal as a step forward. "I want to develop my game, and I think this is a step forward in my career," he emphasized.
The objectives for the new season are clearly defined, with a focus on collective success. "I want to win as much as possible, and I want to have fun. We are privileged to be able to play basketball, and I want to continue enjoying the game with my teammates throughout the season, through good times and bad, always staying united as a team," the guard explained.
