Odion Ighalo now has one less Premier League goal than he thinks following the cancellation of his striker against Chelsea.

Ighalo’s strike in Watford’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Boxing Day was thought to be Ighalo’s goal but the Premier League’s Goal Accreditation Panel has cancelled the goal and now recognises it as a Gary Cahill own goal.

Reacting to the decision, Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores called it unfailr.

“It’s unfair. Ighalo’s shot was on target, the deflection off the defender only changed the direction by this much (gesturing an inch between his thumb and index finger),” Sanchez said.

“It’s strange – for me, it’s not fair. So we have Ighalo with one goal less when Cahill was trying to stop it? Fortunately, Ighalo is very strong and confident. It is not a problem for him.”

Ighalo now has 29 goals in 2015 not 30 as reported earlier.
