Norway's goalkeeper, Ørjan Nyland, was instrumental in their 2-1 victory over Brazil in the World Cup Round of 16. He delivered several incredible saves throughout the match, including an early penalty stop against Bruno Guimarães. Nyland admitted it was the most significant game of his career to date and expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him through challenging times.
“It’s fantastic to be here at the World Cup, playing the most important match of my life. I simply have to thank everyone who stood by me – my wife Tine, who helped me when I needed it most, and my three fantastic children, who were there through both the highs and the lows, as well as the rest of my family,” he told reporters.
Arriving at the World Cup after a season at Sevilla where he was often a reserve, few would have predicted Nyland's heroic performance. But when his country called, he answered emphatically. The shot-stopper revealed he hasn't received any offers from other clubs yet but intends to continue his career.
“No, I haven’t checked my phone – I’m heading to doping control now, that’s the boring part I have to get through first, and then I’ll obviously enjoy this moment. This was the most important match of my career,” he stated.
Norway is set to face either Mexico or England in the quarterfinals in Miami on Saturday.
