Nuno Borges' run at the Estoril Open concluded on Wednesday in the round of 16. The Portuguese tennis player, the nation's top-ranked male and world No. 48, was defeated by Argentina's Roman Andrés Burruchaga, ranked 60th, in a three-set match.

The encounter, lasting 2 hours and 11 minutes, saw Burruchaga emerge victorious with set scores of 6-1, 4-6, and 6-3. This result means Borges, who was the tournament's fifth seed, failed to match his 2024 performance, where he reached the quarterfinals. It's worth noting that the Portuguese player also made it to that stage in 2025, though at that time the tournament held challenger status.

Despite his singles elimination, Nuno Borges' day isn't over. The Portuguese athlete is set to compete in the first round of the doubles competition, partnering with compatriot Francisco Cabral, with whom he won the Estoril Open in 2022. The Portuguese duo will face off against Frenchmen Arthur Reymond and Luca Sanchez.

Meanwhile, Roman Andrés Burruchaga advances to the quarterfinals, where he awaits the winner of the match between Belgian Alexander Blockx, the fourth seed and world No. 38, and French lucky loser Kyrian Jacquet.
