Remo Stars relegated, Plateau United beat MFM FC in top of table clash
Remo Stars needed a win to keep their faint hopes of survival alive but Rivers United got an impressive away win in Sagamu.
Three goals by Bernard Ovoke, Emeka Ogbugh and Esosa Igbinoba sent Remo Stars to the lower Nigeria National League (NNL) with four games remaining in the 2017 season.
Ovoke opened scoring for the away side with a lovely free kick in the 15th minute before Ogbugh doubled the lead for the Stanley Eguma side 20 minutes later
Igbinoba pounced on a rebound to seal the win before Salefu Oche got a consolatory goal for Remo Stars in the 88th minute.
The away win for Rivers United lifted them to 14th on the table.
Remo with just 29 points have been mathematically confirmed for relegation just a season after they got promotion.
In Jos, league leaders Plateau United got a crucial home win against fellow title challengers MFM FC in what many called the ‘title decider’.
Plateau United got their winning as early as in the third minute through Ibeh Johnson who finished fiercely to score after a pass from Anayo Ogbonna.
