Nottingham Forest suffer huge blow as Super Eagles star Ola Aina ruled out for 3 Months
Nottingham Forest have been dealt a major injury setback after defender Ola Aina was ruled out for three months with a hamstring injury sustained on international duty with Nigeria.
The 28-year-old right-back limped off during the Super Eagles’ 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw against South Africa on Tuesday.
Subsequent scans have confirmed the severity of the injury, forcing Forest to remove him from their Premier League squad.
"This is what I want to do at Nottingham" - Postecoglou reveals plans for Aina, Awonyi and teammates
He could, however, be re-registered after the winter transfer window once he regains fitness.
Newly appointed Forest manager Ange Postecoglou admitted Aina’s absence is a big blow but is hopeful the squad can adapt. The setback comes just as Postecoglou prepares for his first match in charge following Nuno Espirito Santo’s sacking earlier this week.
Meanwhile, striker Taiwo Awoniyi is expected to be included in the Premier League squad as Forest adjust their registration list.
Forest travel to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday to face Arsenal in Postecoglou’s debut game.
What Postecoglou said
The Australian coach acknowledged the challenge ahead, praising Mikel Arteta’s men.
“It’s a great game, Mikel has got them off to a good start,” Postecoglou said.
He added, “I think they’ve strengthened over the summer for sure. They’re a stronger team than they were last year so they’ll be a great challenge for us.”
Postecoglou, who was sacked by Tottenham at the end of last season just 16 days after winning the Europa League, will be eager to make a strong impression at the City Ground despite the early injury crisis.
