Defender Julian Ryerson will be unavailable for Norway's Round of 16 clash against Ivory Coast at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, confirmed head coach Ståle Solbakken. The match is scheduled for this evening at 8:00 PM Bulgarian time in Dallas. Ryerson, who plays for German club Borussia Dortmund, sustained an injury and was forced off during Norway's 3-2 victory over Senegal in the second group stage match.

"Ivory Coast is the most physically imposing team in the tournament. They are incredibly strong and in fantastic condition. This is the first challenge we'll need to address and match their physicality. If we can do that, and maintain our defensive and offensive style, we have a chance. I anticipate a very evenly matched and hard-fought game that could go either way. The winner will also need a bit of luck. Things are that close," Solbakken stated.

The coach is confident that their group stage encounter against another high-caliber African opponent, Senegal, will prove beneficial.

"I hope we can show our best. We will certainly need to give our maximum effort. The match against Senegal was perfect preparation for what lies ahead. But we will definitely need to elevate our performance. I believe we are well-prepared and capable of handling it. The team morale is good. Physically and mentally, we are in shape, we have no excuses," Solbakken added.

Star striker Erling Haaland, who was rested during the 4-1 loss to France in the final group stage match, will return to the starting lineup.

"He is a great leader for this team. He leads by example on the pitch. He has an exceptional nose for goal, and that's something you can't teach. He is one of the best in the world," Solbakken declared.
