World champion Lando Norris has escaped a penalty following a last-lap collision with McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri during the Singapore sprint race earlier today.
The McLaren duo were running fourth and fifth at the start of the final tour when Norris launched a move into Turn 5. Contact followed between the two, sending the Australian into the wall, while Norris managed to continue and finish eighth.
Both drivers were summoned by the stewards immediately after the chequered flag to give their version of events. After hearing their testimonies and reviewing video evidence, the officials determined that both drivers shared the blame—Piastri for not leaving enough room on the inside of the corner, and Norris for misjudging his overtaking attempt. Consequently, Norris avoided a penalty, retaining his eighth-place finish and the solitary championship point that came with it.
