The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was previously in the majority with 68 seats but now has 45 while the Labour Party (LP) has one.

The development is expected to alter the configuration of the Senate leadership when the upper house resumes as current President, David Mark and other principal officers will lose their seats to APC members.

The APC's candidate, Muhammadu Buhari also won the Presidential elections which held on March 28 and 29 across Nigeria.
