Neymar Caught in Gambling Hub Shortly After World Cup Exit, Draws Fan Criticism
For Carlo Ancelotti's squad, the World Cup ended in major disappointment, as Brazil failed to reach the quarterfinals for the first time in 36 years. Neymar, whose controversial selection was the subject of much debate, did little to help the team's cause.
Due to injury, he only appeared in the final group stage match, subsequently playing against Scotland and Norway. While he converted a penalty in the last game, the loss to the Nordic team hit him hard. He announced his retirement from international football and even hinted at considering ending his professional career.
Played Poker Before Heading Home
After being knocked out of the championship, the 34-year-old footballer did not immediately return to his home country but chose to spend a few more days in the United States. Over the weekend, he headed to Las Vegas to participate in a World Series of Poker 2026 event.
"Welcome to WSOP 2026, Neymar! The Brazilian football star joined the $10,000 six-max tournament after his national team was eliminated from the FIFA World Cup approximately a week ago," welcomed the tournament organizers, who also posted a video of his casino visit online.
The post was met with a barrage of critical comments, questioning his full commitment to the national team. "I heard he had a confirmed spot and plane tickets to Vegas even before Brazil was eliminated," read one comment on X. "This is the real reason he came to the World Cup," another user wrote.
It's no secret that Neymar is an avid poker player. The Santos forward regularly participates in tournaments, and he has already managed to compete against some of the world's top players in online competitions.
