Newcastle United has reached an agreement with Benfica for the transfer of Amar Dedić. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Magpies will pay €35 million for the Bosnian right-back. The Portuguese club had wanted the 23-year-old defender to remain at the Estádio da Luz, but Dedić himself was adamant about moving to St. James' Park to work with Matthias Jaissle. The two previously collaborated at RB Salzburg.
Dedić has already agreed to personal terms with Newcastle and is expected to sign a contract until 2031.
Last season, Dedić, who has seven caps for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team, played 46 matches for Benfica across all competitions. Primarily a right-back, he has also featured on the left flank and in central defense. His versatility, coupled with Tino Livramento's ongoing recovery, are key reasons behind the expedited transfer to St. James' Park. He is expected to make his debut in the match against Liverpool next week.
