The NBA has fined Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker $35,000 but rescinded his technical foul from Game 2 of the series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, which the Suns lost 107-120.
The 29-year-old guard was penalized for his post-game comments, where he described the referees' performance as "terrible." However, the league did remove the technical foul he received against Alex Caruso in the third quarter.
"This is something that needs to be looked at. I heard Caruso tell the ref to call the foul, and he did. In my 11 years here, I haven't addressed a referee by name, but James Williams was terrible tonight. Whatever they fine me for, everyone can see the clips and understand where my frustration comes from," Devin Booker explained after the game.
NBA Executive Vice President and Head of Basketball Operations, James Jones, imposed the fine. The accompanying press release stated: "Following an investigation, including multiple interviews and video review, the League found no basis for any claims of bias or misconduct on the part of the referees."
