The National Basketball Association (NBA) has announced the order in which teams will select players in the upcoming draft for picks beyond the 14th, determined by a tie-breaking lottery.
According to league rules, draft positions 15 through 60 are typically assigned based on a team's performance in the preceding season, with teams having poorer records receiving higher picks. However, due to several teams finishing the regular season with identical win-loss records, the NBA conducted a lottery to establish the tie-breaking order.
As a result of this lottery, six groups of two or more teams had their draft order resolved.
- Utah (22 wins and 50 losses) won the tie-breaker against the Sacramento Kings.
- New Orleans (26-56) won the tie-breaker against the Dallas Mavericks.
- The Phoenix Suns (45-37) won the tie-breaker against both the Orlando Magic and the Philadelphia 76ers.
- Philadelphia won the tie-breaker against Orlando.
- The Toronto Raptors (46-36) won the tie-breaker against the Atlanta Hawks.
- The Houston Rockets (52-30) won the tie-breaker against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
- The New York Knicks (53-29) won the tie-breaker against the Los Angeles Lakers.
The selection order for the top 14 picks will be determined by a separate lottery, known as the NBA Draft Lottery, which is scheduled to take place on May 10th.
