The Flames were outshot 50-18, but Mikael Backlund's goal with 25 seconds remaining was decisive in Chicago.

The hosts were thoroughly dominant before falling behind to Dennis Wideman's slap shot just over midway through the second period.

Andrew Shaw's tap in had the Blackhawks level in the third period and they looked the more likely winners, if not for Hiller's heroics.

Backlund's snap shot saw the Flames to their win.

The Boston Bruins gave up two leads before eventually getting past the Detroit Red Wings with a 3-2 shoot-out win.

Tomas Tatar cancelled out David Krejci's opening goal before Gustav Nyquist drew the Red Wings level after Reilly Smith's effort.

But Krejci and Smith netted in the shoot-out at Joe Luis Arena, where Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard stopped 37 shots.

The Edmonton Oilers remain winless after a 7-4 loss to the Arizona Coyotes.
