Idris Elba to star in Stephen King’s “Dark Tower”
Good news to fans and lovers of 'The Dark Tower' books. Finally our beloved eight-novel series is coming on screen!
Our beloved gunslinger Roland Deschain would be played out by Idris Elba!!
In an interview with Entertainment weekly, author Stephen King and Nikolaj Arcel (the film’s director and co-writer) revealed that Idris Elba is the perfect man for the job.
“I love it. I think he’s a terrific actor,” King said of casting Elba as Roland.
Though he admits he always “visualized [Clint] Eastwood as Roland.”
“[Roland] can be white or black, it makes no difference to me. I think it opens all kind of exciting possibilities for the backstory.”
Arcel would not specify which of the books the film will focus on, but did say, “A lot of it takes place in our day, in the modern world.”
The movie is set to be released Jan. 13, 2017.
Idris Elbas is not a stranger to book to movie adaptation. In 2013, he portrayed Nelson Mandela in the biographical film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. and Commandant in Beasts of No Nation (2015).
