Motivation not an issue for Japan - Eddie Jones
Japan coach Eddie Jones is confident complacency will not be an issue for his team as they prepare to face Scotland on Wednesday.
Jones' men pulled off a huge shock in their opening Rugby World Cup game, edging South Africa 34-32 in Brighton.
The former Australia coach believes Japan have the leadership within their squad to ensure overconfidence plays no part against Scotland in Gloucester.
"It [complacency] is always a risk isn't it?" Jones said.
"But we've got good leadership in the team. Leitchy [captain Michael Leitch] is doing a fantastic job. The leadership group met yesterday afternoon and spoke about it.
"So the messages within the team are pretty strong. We haven't come here to have one splash in the pond. We want to make a go of this World Cup.
"We said we had two targets; one was to make the quarter-finals, and the other was to be the team of the tournament.
"So we've made a start on both of those and therefore the Scotland game was so important for us."
Jones has no doubt his players are ready to back up their win over the Springboks, insisting the four-day turnaround was not a problem.
The 55-year-old also believes Japan will be motivated, despite playing lesser opposition in Pool B.
"Well if the players can't get excited after Saturday then I don't know what's going to excite them, and they're excited," Jones said.
"I don't think we've got to worry about them in that regard. Their motivation is not an issue.
"We've dress-rehearsed this probably three times over the last two years and had four-day turnarounds.
"We played Wales two years ago and beat them on the Saturday, played Canada on the Wednesday and beat them, then played America [USA] on the Sunday [and] beat them. So these guys can do it.
"Japanese players are enormously resilient. So that's one thing in our favour."
