Harvey open to long-term extension with Mets

Harvey, 26, is bound for free agency in 2018 but the right-hander is open to the idea of committing to the Mets for the long haul.

"I think whatever comes up is going to come up. I've never shied away from it," Harvey said.

"I've never said I wouldn't consider it, but I haven't heard anything considering that."

Harvey made $614,125 in 2015 and agreed to a $4.325 million deal for this season, dodging arbitration.

He went 13-8 with a 2.71 ERA in 216 innings last season, his first back from Tommy John surgery, and figures to be the Mets' opening-day starter.

Harvey was the starter in the Mets' final game last season, a disastrous 7-2 loss to eventual champions the Kansas City Royals in game five of the World Series.

But Harvey has moved on since then and is looking forward to a new season.

"It's something that motivates you going into the next year," Harvey said.

"Instead of dwelling on what happened and trying to change something you can't, you use that as motivation towards the off-season and getting your body ready and getting your mind ready and getting back to where you want to be.

"We have a lot of confidence this year and a lot of knowledge and experience. We're excited about starting fresh this year."
