While Cueto starred, Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom conceded six hits and four runs in five innings.

Eric Hosmer went two-for-four with two RBIs for the Royals, while Mike Moustakas was two-for-three.

Lucas Duda was two-for-three for the Mets.

Duda's single in the fourth inning got the Mets on the board, but the fifth would be decisive.

Alcides Escobar singled to score Alex Gordon before Hosmer had a two-run single to make it 3-1.

Hosmer also scored thanks to a Moustakas single as the Royals opened up a match-winning lead.

Kansas City added three more runs in the eighth inning as Cueto saw them to victory.
