'The GOAT debate is over' Nigerians react as Messi beats Lewandowski to win 7th Ballon d'Or

Lionel Messi won the 2021 2021 Ballon d'Or on Monday night. The Argentine maestro was named winner ahead of Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

The Paris Saint-Germain star won his 7th Ballon d'Or award, but was full of praise for his counterpart from Poland who finished second.

Speaking on the podium he said, "I would like to mention Robert Lewandowski, it’s been a real honour to compete with you. Everyone knows and we agree that you were the winner last year. I think France Football should award you your 2020 #BallondOr - you deserve it and you should have it at home."

Messi then went on to thank his former and new club as well as his country. He added, “Today I’m here in Paris. I am very happy, really very happy, I really want to continue to fight and reach new objectives. I don't know how many more years but I am really enjoying myself. I thank my team-mates at Barça, Paris & Argentina”

Several Nigerians took to microblogging app Twitter to express their satisfaction to the news that Messi emerged winner.
