Medium, the blogging platform, has been blocked in China, according to various media reports.
Though other similar services such as Google'sBlogspot have been blocked by the famed China Great Firewall, Medium had continued to remain uncensored in the most populous country in the world. Until last week.
According to Tech In Asia, a network ping test on Medium's homepage within the Chinese mainland confirms that the site cannot be reached. The site is also unavailable on all three Chinese telcos.
“We are aware of the block and we don’t have definitive knowledge why the block has occurred,” a Medium spokesman said, according to Tech In Asia.
The block comes after the country blocked access to the websites of both Time and The Economist. Meanwhile, Medium, last week, launched a new scheme for major publishers to post articles on its platform and make money from ads there.
San-Francisco based Medium, was co-founded by former Twitter CEO, Evan Williams, and launched in August 2012.
