The Deputy Secretary-General of FIFA,
FIFA had appointed Kattner, who was FIFA’s former financial director, as the acting Secretary-General last summer after the previous occupier of the office, Jerome Valcke, was suspended, and subsequently banned from all football-related activities for 12 years - after he was found guilty of a series of financial offences.
“FIFA’s Deputy Secretary General Markus Kattner has been dismissed from his position effective immediately," a statement said.
“FIFA’s internal investigation uncovered breaches of his fiduciary responsibilities in connection with his employment contract. FIFA will not comment further on any of the details, but will continue its co-operation with the relevant authorities.”
The development is coming less than two weeks after the organisation appointed a female Secretary-General from Senegal, Fatma Samoura.
