Marquez kicked off his weekend by setting the second-fastest time in Free Practice 1 before securing fifth place in the afternoon Practice session. Raul Fernandez led the way on the timesheets, edging out Marquez's title rivals Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin.

"At least we are right there in the mix. It's true that we aren't the fastest, just as we expected, but we are closer than we thought we'd be, so I'm happy.

"First and foremost, my mindset is different. The feeling on the bike is better, and I can ride with more consistency. We already understood what was needed at this circuit last year. In terms of race pace, I feel consistent, but we are lacking a bit over a single lap. Let's see if we can find some improvements for tomorrow.

"Last year, I noticed that as the weekend progressed, with more rubber going down and grip improving, I closed in on the frontrunners. So we need to read the track evolution well. We get the best grip in warm-up after the sprint. Last year's data certainly helped us start from a better baseline this season, but we still have areas to improve—not because I'm inconsistent, but to find those extra one or two tenths that give us a shot at fighting for the top five or a podium," explained Marquez, who also admitted he was glad to see Fernandez leading instead of Bezzecchi or Martin.

"I'm really pleased for Raul. If Aprilia are going to perform well, I'd rather see Raul and Ai (Ogura) up there than the other two. But it's only Friday. We know Aprilia hold the top spots and are exceptionally fast through these long, flowing corners. We'll see what happens and try to play to our strengths," added the world champion.
