Marc Marquez has revealed the advice he gave to Red Bull Formula 1 driver Isack Hadjar after the latter missed the Dutch Grand Prix due to injury. Hadjar withdrew from last week's Zandvoort race weekend with a wrist injury sustained during a boxing training session prior to the event.
He was replaced by Liam Lawson, whose spot at Racing Bulls was then filled by former Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda. It remains uncertain whether Hadjar will recover in time to compete in next week's Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
During the Zandvoort weekend, French media reported that Hadjar had intended to participate in the Dutch Grand Prix but was dissuaded by Marquez. Their connection stems from a shared physiotherapist. The Ducati rider suffered a severe injury to his right arm in 2020, which ultimately required four major surgeries over the following two years.
Last October, he sustained a complex shoulder fracture that continues to affect him this season. Marquez stated that his advice to Hadjar was not to risk aggravating his injury for the sake of competing in a single race, drawing from his own experience with the arm injury that caused him to miss the entire 2020 season.
"Hadjar contacted me," Marquez told the official MotoGP website before the Aragon Grand Prix weekend. "Of course, I'm not a doctor, but he sought advice because sometimes for a racer, or in this case a driver, it's extremely difficult because you sometimes feel you might be able to ride. "But it's hard to accept that: 'Okay, I'll miss this race and prepare better for the next one.' "And that's exactly what I told him. In the past, I learned that missing one race won't change your life. Missing or worsening an injury because you rode too early can change your life," added the seven-time premier class champion.
In recent years, Marquez has used his experience with injuries to help other riders in similar situations, including Jorge Martin during his challenging 2025 season.
