Polish President Karol Nawrocki took part in a special training session with eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao in Manila on Thursday. A lifelong combat sports enthusiast, the Polish head of state stepped inside the gym to spar and train alongside the newly appointed Secretary of the Philippine National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC).
Sworn into office just a month ago, Pacquiao has embraced a new challenge spearheading the nation's anti-poverty campaign. Nawrocki made no secret of his admiration for the former world champion, hailing Pacquiao as an enduring symbol of perseverance, discipline, and triumph over adversity.
Dressed in training gear, the Polish leader traded mitt work pointers, watched sparring rounds featuring active champions, and shared light-hearted moments in the ring with the boxing icon. For Pacquiao, welcoming a foreign president into the gym came naturally, but this encounter carried an added sense of purpose.
"In the ring, you fight for a title. In public service, you fight for the people," said Pacquiao. "The fact that President Nawrocki joined us shows that the fight against poverty is a universal battle. We are knocking out poverty—one community at a time."
Pacquiao added that sharing the ring with the Polish leader was an inspiring reminder that true leadership requires hard work, resilience, and the courage to step into the ring for those who need it most.
