Southampton beat Red Devils at Old Trafford
Charlie Austin scored a late minute leader on his Southampton debut to hand Manchester United their sixth loss of the season.
The striker was signed from QPR last week and on his debut, he scored a winner at Old Trafford against United.
Maybe Louis van Gaal needed somebody like Austin to score the goals for him as Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial were guilty of not staying in better position to score.
With the midfielder failing to do their jobs, Martial and Rooney often left the box, coming inside to be more involved in the play.
Southampton defence was not really trouble and Sadio Mane was guilty of wasting some chances in he first half.
Rooney managed a couple of shots which were tame and Marouane Fellaini was unimpressive for United in the first half as they were booed by their own fans at the end.
This is the 11th successive game they have now failed to score a goal in the first 45 minutes .
Southampton always looked like scoring anything they entered the attacking third.
United however returned for the second half with Juan Mata in for Fellaini and their game changed.
They exerted some pressure on the Southampton goal but it was still Ronald Koeman’s team who looked more likely to score.
Mane made a very good run and cross to Long but Darmian rose high to deny the ball from reaching the Saint striker.
It looked like it was going to be a goalless draw before Austin rose high to meet a cross.
Southampton took the lead and it was too late for United time to come up with an equaliser.
