Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, a player they've been tracking with keen interest for over a year. According to journalist David Ornstein, the Red Devils have tabled an offer of £60 million for the 22-year-old Cameroonian, with an additional £5 million in add-ons. While this bid is still below the Seagulls' asking price, negotiations are ongoing, and both clubs are actively working towards reaching an agreement for the transfer.
Sky Sports reports that the Old Trafford club has already agreed personal terms with Baleba, who is expected to sign a five-year contract. His potential arrival would complete Manchester United's midfield overhaul, following the earlier summer acquisitions of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. Manager Michael Carrick also has Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo at his disposal. Manuel Ugarte is currently sidelined with a knee injury sustained during the World Cup with Uruguay, while Mason Mount has missed the last two pre-season fixtures.
Baleba joined Brighton from Lille in the summer of 2023 and has since made 112 appearances for the South Coast club. Last season, he featured in 35 matches across all competitions for the Seagulls, missing several due to his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations.
