Lingard opened scoring in the 14th minute for United's first half goal in 12 games.

It was almost two goals for United when Rooney backheel played in Anthony Martial who turned inside a defender and shot in to the side netting.

United goal was a beauty.

The play started from deep, before it was played in to full-back Matteo Darmian whose pass was collected by Juan Mata.

The Spain international turned inside to beat play the ball between two markers to Rooney who chipped across the top of the area to Martial.

He calmly collected the ball to curl his effort past the goalkeeper for United's second.

Rooney had a goal ruled out for a shove on Phil Bardsley before Mata was allowed to run in to acres of space and feed Martial on the left.

The Frenchman turned provider for Rooney for United's third goal of the night.
