While both squads featured some notable absences, key players like Gianluigi Donnarumma, Joško Gvardiol, Mateo Kovačić, Antoine Semenyo, and Phil Foden started for City. Inter's lineup included Yann Bisseck, Nicolò Barella, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Federico Dimarco, and Francesco Pio Esposito. The first half was evenly contested, with both teams enjoying periods of dominance. City broke the deadlock in the 14th minute when Divin Mubama scored from close range after an assist from Semenyo. Just six minutes later, Inter equalized through a low shot from Benjamin Pavard, who capitalized on a pass from Dimarco.

The second half was entirely dominated by the Sky Blues, who unleashed 18 shots but couldn't find a winning goal. On two occasions, the Milanese giants were saved by the woodwork from efforts by substitutes Vitor Reis and Ryan McAdoo. With the match ending in a draw, it proceeded to a penalty shootout. City's players missed their first three attempts – Ryan Ait-Nouri shot wide, Abdukodir Khusanov hit the post, and Nico González failed to beat Ivan Provedel, with only Claudio Echeverri converting his spot-kick. Conversely, almost all of Inter's penalty takers were clinical: Piotr Zieliński, Mattia Mosconi, and Matteo Lavelli all scored, while Donnarumma saved only Davide Frattesi's shot.

Inter thus triumphed in the shootout. Their next friendly is on Wednesday against city rivals AC Milan in Perth, Australia. City, on the same day, will play an all-star team from the local league in South Korea.
