Manchester City has officially confirmed that Bernardo Silva will depart the club at the end of the current season. Over nine years at the Etihad Stadium, the Portuguese playmaker made 451 appearances, scoring 76 goals and providing 77 assists. He lifted 19 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League.
Silva, who ranks among the top 10 players for most appearances for the club, shared an emotional message with the Citizens' faithful.
“Citizens,
When I arrived nine years ago, I was chasing a young boy's dream, wanting to succeed in life, wanting to achieve great things. This city and this club gave me so much more than that, far more than I ever hoped for. What we won and achieved together is a legacy that will forever be cherished in my heart. We became 'Centurions,' won a domestic quadruple, a treble, four consecutive titles, and so much more. It wasn't too bad.
In a few months, it will be time to say goodbye to the city where we not only won so much as a football club but also where I started my marriage and built my family. From the bottom of my heart, Ines and Carlota, thank you!
Thank you to the fans as well. Your unconditional support over the years is something I will never forget. My main goal as a player was always to play with passion, so you could feel proud and well-represented on the pitch. I hope you felt that in every single match. I arrived as a Man City player, and I leave as one of you, a lifelong Man City fan. Keep supporting this young team, and I am almost certain they will bring you many new fantastic memories in the future.
Thank you to the club, Pep, the staff, and all my teammates over these nine years for allowing me to be part of this journey for so long. The atmosphere we created every day on the training ground made me feel at home and part of a big family. Let's enjoy these last few weeks together and fight for what this season can still bring us.
I love you all!” Bernardo Silva wrote on social media.
