Man Utd fans to bring back iconic ticker banner following Man City verdict

Manchester United supporters are set to bring back the iconic ticker banner used to mock rivals Manchester City over their historic trophy drought. The display is poised to reappear at Old Trafford on Saturday when the Red Devils host Tottenham, this time reading '50' to mark the half-century since City's last unchallenged piece of silverware.

The banner, famously mounted in the Stretford End in 2000, originally marked 24 years since City's 1976 League Cup triumph. The number was updated annually until 2011, when Manchester City defeated Stoke City in the FA Cup final to end their 35-year wait for a major trophy. The United faithful subsequently retired the banner, and in 2013 it was sold to a Kuwait-based collector for £7,000, though fans are now attempting to reclaim it.

Its anticipated return comes in the wake of the Premier League's verdict regarding Manchester City's financial charges. With the club found guilty on 114 of 115 counts—a decision City continue to dispute and have formally appealed—United supporters are taking the opportunity to revive one of the most famous jibes in Manchester derby history.
