Noni Madueke has revealed that England is taking penalty shootout practice extremely seriously. The Euro 2024 finalists are set to face DR Congo in a Round of 16 clash on Wednesday, having topped Group L with victories over Croatia and Panama, alongside a draw with Ghana.

England is widely considered the clear favorite for the match at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, but nothing is being left to chance, including the possibility of the game being decided by a penalty shootout.

Spot kicks have often been a bane for the national team over the years, notably in their Euro 2021 final loss to Italy. However, Tuchel's squad is now determined to go all the way.

"Just like every other phase of the game, we approach it extremely seriously. As you said, when you get into the knockout stages, it's something that becomes increasingly likely in matches. As with every aspect of our game, you want to be at the highest level here too," Noni Madueke stated regarding potential penalties.

"Yes, of course. I'm always ready to take a penalty. Ultimately, it all depends on the coach's decision, what he wants and what he thinks is best for the team. But from my side, I'll do it."

The England forward expressed his delight after learning that his Arsenal teammate Gabriel Martinelli had scored Brazil's winning goal against Japan.

"Oh, brilliant. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. No, seriously. I'm happy for him. I hope he continues to do extremely well, just as long as they don't play against us!"

The Arsenal attacker also detailed his expectations for the match against DR Congo.

"I expect a tough game, for sure. I think when you reach this stage of the World Cup, you can't underestimate any opponent. All opponents are dangerous. Everyone has their strengths and qualities they try to impose on the game. This match will be no different. It will be tough. We'll be ready from the start."

Noni Madueke also shared his thoughts on the likelihood of the roof being closed at the Atlanta stadium where the match will be played.

"It makes no difference, honestly, whether the roof is open or closed. It's great for us. I think it will be around 19-20 degrees, so it's perfect. The pitch is good. I don't think that will be any problem whatsoever. The approach is the same," he concluded.
