Liverpool in Talks with Brentford Director, Internal Appointment Also Possible
Liverpool's management is reportedly in discussions with external candidates for the new sporting director role, with Brentford's technical director Lee Dykes among those considered, according to the BBC.
It's understood that the Reds are also open to an internal appointment. Current technical director Julian Ward is seen as a strong contender to succeed Richard Hughes, whose move to Al-Hilal was confirmed earlier this month.
The selection process is being led by Fenway Sports Group (FSG) president Mike Gordon.
In addition to Dykes, Brentford's sporting director Phil Giles is also highly regarded, but securing his services from West London would likely prove a challenging task.
FSG has engaged with other external candidates besides Dykes, who has played a crucial role in establishing the Bees as a Premier League side since their promotion in 2021. He joined the club in May 2019.
