Liam Lawson has stated that his primary focus for the remainder of the 2026 Formula 1 season is to score as many points as possible, despite lingering uncertainty over whether he will retain a spot on the grid next year.

The New Zealander was once again the "best of the rest" at the United States Grand Prix, crossing the line in ninth place behind only the eight front-running cars of Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, and McLaren.

That result marked Lawson's 14th points finish in 20 outings for Racing Bulls this season, including three Sprint races. His total tally of top-10 finishes stands at 16 when factoring in points scored during his stint as a stand-in for the injured Isack Hadjar at Red Bull.

Lawson has claimed the lion's share of Racing Bulls' haul, scoring 63 of the team's 102 points. Despite these consistent performances, his future for the 2027 season remains up in the air.

Racing Bulls management is currently weighing up whether to promote Formula 2 title contender Nikola Tsolov to a race seat. With Arvid Lindblad's position looking secure after an impressive rookie campaign, Lawson would be the one forced to make way should the team opt to sign the Bulgarian driver.

If he is dropped by the team, the Kiwi faces slim odds of securing another drive on the 2027 grid. Despite the pressure, Lawson remains firmly focused on his performances across the remaining rounds.

Speaking to the media in Austin, Lawson addressed his current situation:

"It's definitely a good position to be in. We've had a strong year, and there are only a few races left in the championship. My goal is clear — to score as many points as possible before the season ends, and I'll give it everything to make that happen."
