Sunderland remain rooted to the bottom of the table after being held to a 0-0 draw at home against Leeds. Bulgaria international Ilia Gruev was named in the visitors' matchday squad but remained an unused substitute. The Yorkshire side recorded their fifth Premier League draw of the season and a record 12th stalemate in 28 league matches in 2026.
The clash at the Stadium of Light was played in challenging conditions with high winds heavily affecting the quality of football. Sunderland registered two shots on target in the first half, both from Brian Brobbey, but James Trafford stood firm on both occasions. The goalkeeper also denied Nilson Angulo twice after the break.
Leeds' best attacking moments arrived in the second half. Tarik Muharemovic saw his header saved by Robin Roefs, before the goalkeeper also dealt with an effort from Ao Tanaka. Roefs produced another crucial intervention late on to deny substitute Sean Longstaff, while several scrambles inside the hosts' penalty area came to nothing for the visitors.
