Leeds United has announced the signing of defender Nico Elvedi from Borussia Mönchengladbach for a fee of £8.5 million, including add-ons. The 29-year-old Swiss international spent 11 years with the 'Foals,' making 364 appearances. At Elland Road, he will reunite with Daniel Farke, who managed Mönchengladbach during the 2022/23 season.
Elvedi marks Leeds' fourth acquisition of the summer transfer window, following James Trafford, Harry Wilson, and Tarik Muharemovic. His arrival at the club facilitated Sebastian Bornauw's departure, who has joined Hamburger SV on a season-long loan.
"I'm very happy to be here. Everything is set, and I can't wait to play for this club. I know Leeds has a great history. Manchester United is the big rival, so we'll try to beat them this season. This is a big club with incredible fans. I can't wait to play in this stadium. I've seen some videos of the stadium, of the fans, and I loved it. Everyone told me it's a special moment to walk through the tunnel and experience the atmosphere. I can't wait to see that," Elvedi told Leeds' club television.
