Formula 1 statistics reveal that across the last 15 World Championship races held in Mexico City, only two drivers have managed to secure more than one pole position.
In the modern era since F1 returned to Mexico, Charles Leclerc stands out as the sole driver to have claimed multiple poles across the 10 qualifying sessions held, topping Saturday's shootout in both 2019 and 2023.
Going back five more races introduces racing icon Ayrton Senna, who took pole position in Mexico in 1988 and 1989. In fact, the Brazilian legend's qualifying record in Mexico City is even more formidable: between 1986 and 1992, he stormed to four consecutive pole positions (1986–1989) — three for Lotus and one for McLaren.
The other most successful qualifier in Mexican Grand Prix history is Jim Clark. The British icon also claimed four pole positions with Lotus, taking three on the bounce between 1963 and 1965 before adding a fourth in 1967.
