Kwara United who are leading the Northern Conference of the Nigeria National League (NNL) beat Golden Stars 3-0 on Saturday, August 10.
With that victory, the Harmony Boys are now 10 points clear at the top of the Northern Conference table which ensures they have secured promotion to the NPFL.
Kwara United’s Michael Ohanu who is the leading goalscorer in this season’s NNL bagged a hat-trick in the game, his third of the season.
It was a fantastic season for the Illorin-based club who have recorded 13 wins – four of them away- this season.
Their remaining three games are against FRSC FC, FC Taraba and FC Zamfara.
This will be the third time Kwara United will be promoted to the NPFL since their restructuring in 1997 when they took their current name.
Kwara United relegated in 2008 and returned to the top division a year later. They suffered the drop again in 2013 but returned in 2014 before their last relegation in 2015.
In the current NNL season, Jigawa Golden Stars, Sokoto United, Kogi United and Yobe Desert Stars are all battling for the other promotion slot in the Northern Conference.
Heartland FC are leading the Southern Conference and have Bayelsa United, Go-Round FC, Crown FC and Delta Force to compete for the two available promotion slots.
