Tamulis, 34, started the day at six-under overall in Prattville, Alabama, only to card 12 birdies thereafter to finish a bogey-free third-round 68 - and card a seven-under 65 to top it off.

The American edged out former world number one Yani Tseng (16 under), after the Taiwanese finished with a final-round 67.

Tamulis had to wait nervously in the clubhouse as Tseng surged late with birdies down the stretch at 13, 14 and 16, but she could not force a play-off.

Tied for second with Tseng was Austin Ernst (69), after a bogey-free finale that featured three birdies.

Hsu Wei-ling, compatriot of Tseng, was outright eighth after a day-best 64 that shot her 24 spots up the leaderboard.

Nannette Hill (68), Julieta Granada and Kim Sei-young were tied for ninth on 10 under.

Defending champion Hur Mi-jung withdrew after one round at the event, after a two-over 74.
