Klay Thompson has officially been introduced by his new team, the Miami Heat, with whom he appears to have ambitious goals. The 36-year-old guard spoke glowingly about another new addition to the Heat roster – Greek superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.
“Looking at the roster, it seems I’ll fit in very well if I can find space on the court and attack from the perimeter. I’ll have excellent defenders behind me to help out. Especially at this stage of my career, I’ll have a specific role; my voice will suit this team, and I’ll try to lead by example,” added the veteran and Golden State Warriors legend, who last played for the Dallas Mavericks.
Regarding his teammate Giannis Antetokounmpo, formerly of the Milwaukee Bucks, Thompson commented:
“Giannis is one of the greatest players of all time. He’s a two-time MVP, a special talent, and I have immense respect for what he’s achieved and how he continues to improve every season. We can help each other, as well as the entire team.”
“I’ll create space for him to attack the basket, and in turn, I’ll get a lot of open shots because both Giannis and Bam (Adebayo) put pressure on defenders when they drive to the hoop,” the guard further explained.
“It’s going to be fun to see how we gel; it’s going to be great. We’re very versatile, we can defend positions 1 through 5 and run in transition. Our possibilities are limitless. I’m excited, and coming here, I feel like I can be myself again,” Klay Thompson concluded.
