The Super Eagles of Nigeria have failed to qualify for the last two African Cup of Nations and are currently ranked 70th in the world.

Reacting to the poor state of football in Nigeria, Anyikude blamed politics and also criticising the decision of the (NFF) Nigeria Football Federation to host the March 2016 AFCON qualifiers against Egypt at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) fined the NFF over a ‘lack of security and overcrowding at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna after about 40,000 fans crammed into the 16,000-seater venue to watch the game.

Photos of fans standing and hanging on anything to watch the game circulated round social media and Kelechi thinks it is an embarrassment to the country.

“The game against Kaduna was so embarrassing that even people were asking me ‘why are your mate hanging on the poll,” Kelechi who resides in England told Pulse TV.

“It was so embarrassing, because of politics you are taking it to the stadium that is not big enough.

“The boys are playing under the sun, why do you expect them to qualify. They play in the UK and Europe and you bring them back to play under the hot sun.

“That’s why I don’t thrash the players, it’s the admin people, I don’t think they know what they are doing.”
