Kanu played for Arsenal between 1999 and 2004 winning two Premier League titles and two FA Cup trophies.
It was during his time as an Arsenal player that Nigerian politician Aregbesola became a huge fan of the Premier League club.

“I became an Arsenal fan because of you and I have remained a Gooner ever since,” the Osun State Governor told Kanu when they met recently.
Photos from their meeting were shared on the Governor’s official social media pages.
“Thanks, I appreciate and nice to meet you. GOD BLESS YOU,” Kanu replied the Governor on Twitter.
Before the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, John Mikel Obi and Alex Iwobi, Kanu was one of the first Nigerian regulars in the Premier League.
A large portion of Arsenal fans in Nigeria started following the club when Kanu was playing in there.
