Rohr last month was appointed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as the Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles on a two-year-contract.
Despite the new Technical Adviser, Mikel who took over as Super Eagles captain from 2016 will continue his role under the new boss.
Describing Mikel as a natural leader, Rohr hailed the midfielder for his role in the Dream Team VI that won a bronze medal at the recently concluded Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

“Mikel is a natural leader,” Rohr told the media ahead of his first game as Super Eagles Technical Advsier.
“His experience and leadership is exceptional. I saw him play at the Olympics and I’m sure I want him to continue as my captain.
“He spoke with me on the phone and he is here again when he should be resting from the rigours of the Olympics.”
Rohr will oversee his first Super Eagles game on Saturday, September 3 when Nigeria face Tanzania in a dead rubber 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers clash.
