In-form Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy says he pinches himself every day to tell himself his remarkable success is not a dream.

Just five years ago Jamie Vardy was playing in non-league football alongside a day job of making medical splint in his hometown of Sheffield.

He was released by his hometown club Sheffield Wednesday when he was 16-years-old and was playing non-league football until he was signed by Leicester in 2012.

Now at 29, Vardy is currently the highest goal-scorer with 18 goals in the Premier League as Leicester City remain on top of the table.

Vardy still can’t believe his remarkable success and admitted even he could not have predicted his upward trajectory.

“I do have to pinch myself every day really but it has taken a lot of hard work to be honest,” Vardy said.

“It wasn't nice playing and having to work full-time all day, so I had to put the work in at first just to get a half-decent club.

“It's a rise that I wouldn't have predicted to happen but it's credit to me for the work I've put in as well. I literally wish I could play football every day and can carry on playing.”
