Carlo Ancelotti's name has surfaced in discussions regarding the next head coach for the Italian national team. The federation has already confirmed negotiations with Pep Guardiola, but reports suggest the Spaniard's €20 million salary demand is deemed excessive. Now, Paolo Maldini, the new technical director of the Italian Football Federation, has revealed that talks also took place with Ancelotti, who is currently managing Brazil.

“I can't disclose everything about the coaching search,” stated the AC Milan legend. “Certainly, one of the names you mentioned (Guardiola, editor's note) is among those we spoke with, but we also contacted Ancelotti. We felt it was right to start by approaching the best in the world to gauge their general availability,” he explained.

“Ideally, we'd appoint a coach by the end of the week, but it's even more crucial to wait for the person we truly want. There's a sense of urgency, but at the same time, we're not rushing. I feel significant pressure because I've been presented with a very ambitious project. It's like a call to duty – when Italy asks, it's hard to refuse. Despite recognizing the difficulties and the project's long-term nature, I've committed myself to the cause and convinced Leonardo. We share common projects and values, as well as mutual respect and friendship,” Maldini added.
