Andoni Iraola has revealed he held talks with other clubs before taking the helm at Liverpool. The 44-year-old Basque coach succeeded Arne Slot as the Reds' manager after the conclusion of last season, with Iraola departing Bournemouth after three years.

“It happened quite quickly. Yes, it’s true I was talking to some clubs. I think it was the first or second week after the season ended. Liverpool contacted me, and it didn’t take me long to decide,” Iraola stated.

Iraola was Liverpool's primary target when the decision was made to dismiss Slot at the end of May, following a disappointing season that saw the Merseyside club finish fifth in the Premier League. However, England secured an additional European club competition spot, meaning Liverpool will once again compete in the Champions League.
