Ana Konjuh battles back from a set down to lift the Aegon Open title

Ana Konjuh put a miserable start behind her to claim a maiden WTA Tour title with a three-set victory over Monica Niculescu at the Aegon Open.

It took the 17-year-old time to settle into Monday's final in Nottingham, but once she found her rhythm she was able to come from behind to record a 1-6 6-4 6-2 win.

Konjuh had been forced to play both her quarter-final and semi-final matches on Sunday, due to rain disrupting the tournament, but showed no sign of fatigue as she triumphed in the delayed showpiece.

A host of early errors from Konjuh enabled Niculescu, who knocked out top seed Agnieszka Radwanska in the last four, to dominate the opening set.

The Romanian's confident groundstrokes opened up angles that enabled her to hit numerous winners, as her opponent endured particular struggles on her backhand wing.

Konjuh finally got on the board after losing the first five games, but there was little she could do to stop Niculescu moving ahead, the 27-year-old serving accurately to serve out the set.

However, the balance of power shifted at the start of the second as Konjuh finally found her form, firing winners with her backhand and dealing effectively with the sliced forehands of Niculescu.

Three consecutive games put the teenager in control and, although Niculescu threatened a late comeback, Konjuh levelled the match as she converted her second set point.

Another strong start to the decider set up Konjuh's win and Niculescu duly fired long to give her opponent a second break in set three and her first taste of glory.
