It was gathered that the trailer was traveling to Akure, Ondo State, from Ilesha, Osun State when its brake failed, and the driver swerved the vehicle into a road side market along Ilesha-Akure Expressway.

According to report, most of the victims were traders, artisans and drivers, who come from neighbouring communities to transact businesses once a week on both sides of the expressway.

The trailer was said to have crushed many of the victims beyond recognition, while others were roasted to death.

Eyewitnesses said the driver and his assistant vanished into the crowd to avoid being lynched.
